Destination overview
Termessos offers a very different experience from Antalya’s coastal archaeological sites. Built at a high elevation in the Taurus Mountains, the ancient Pisidian city is surrounded by rugged natural scenery and dense forest. Its remote location helped preserve much of the settlement’s original character. Visitors can explore the remains of the theatre, agora, city walls, temples, cisterns, necropolis and other structures spread across the mountainside. The ancient theatre is the best-known monument at Termessos. Positioned above the surrounding valleys, it combines archaeological interest with wide views of the Taurus Mountains. Termessos is best suited to travellers who enjoy history, nature and active exploration. Reaching the main ruins requires walking uphill on uneven paths, so the visit is more physically demanding than a standard museum or city-centre archaeological site.
